What is Online Learning K8, WelBckMSHS &/or OnLrnMSHS, and what do we do with it?
-
When logged on to K12 OLS as a student, you will notice your courses have populated on your CLASSES tab. One of the course cards showing is for your Online Learning: K8 or Welcome (Back or To) Online Middle & High School Course, depending on your grade level. Go ahead & complete that with your Learning Coach since the required course is now available. This is a great resource for all new and returning families to help prepare for the school year. :)
What is USA Test Prep, and what do we do with it?
-
Some may notice that USA Test Prep is showing on your school homepage. More info will be provided by your teachers.
How do I adjust my Time Zone Settings?
-
If you see a different time listed in students' schedule in the OLS/OM/HS than Central Time, it is an indication that Time Zone settings need to be adjusted. Be sure to also check the time set on your actual computer, to make sure it matches the correct time in CT zone. Job aides with instructions to set time zones for the OM/HS platform, as well as your computer are provided within these resources: ARVA's Tech Tips & Tools Guide and K12’s Time Zone Settings for Class Connect.
How do I attend a Class Connect session?
-
You & your student should see a link to access the sessions within the Class Connect schedule on the OLS Weekly Plan or OM/HS under EVENTS. You will attend these sessions the same way you did the parent trainings, via Blackboard Collaborate.
-
Logged in as a Learning Coach, you should see the LC homepage. On the left, click Schedule. It will populate the schedule of lessons & class connects. Session titles should be listed on that screen under EVENTS, and you can toggle in the upper right hand corner from DAY to WEEK view. The live sessions can be logged into up to 15 minutes early. Click the link & keep your eye in the upper right hand corner of your browser to see if a message appears about Pop-Up blocker, which can prevent families from logging in. If that is the case, it can be adjusted to Always Allow/Allows Remember. Then refresh page & click link to get in. It should have a download within a rectangle in the lower left corner that may say 'Meeting' or depending on settings on the computer, it may appear in upper right hand corner as blue arrow, click that and a rectangle should be there that says 'Meeting'. Once clicked, BBC will start the launch for the live session. It will start the process then ask you if you want to RUN, click that. Then you will be asked about internet whether Cable/DSL, etc. Choose the one that applies to you, then click OK. After completing the steps, you will soon be joining the session. K12’s Class Connect Configuration Room is always available to practice logging into a class connect.

What do we do if we don't have Microsoft Office on our computers?
-
Good news! There is no need to purchase Microsoft products, they are provided free for all ARVA students. Upon acceptance into ARVA, students are assigned an ARVA.org email to use to communicate with their teachers or other ARVA staff. Along with their arva.org email students are provided free downloads of Microsoft Office 365 products. Simply login as student, click the envelope next to their name, then click Inbox. A new page will appear, click Office 365 in the upper left corner and another page will appear. Look to the upper right and you will see a rectangle that says Install O365. Click to begin following the prompts to download and install. A One Page Resource Guide is also attached to assist you with this, including instructions to contact K12 for further assistance with O365, if needed. (Note: Always get permission from your parents/guardians before downloading or installing anything to the computer.) I'm sure you already knew that that though. :)
